Koenigsegg Sadair’s Reclaims the Laguna Seca Production Car Lap Record!

Four years ago, Czinger’s 21C lapped California’s Laguna Seca in 1:25.47, sparking a new battleground for production vehicle records. After Koenigsegg beat that time in 2024, Czinger reclaimed the record this past summer as part of a wave of California track record runs. Koenigsegg has once again reset the record with a lap time of 1:24.16.

Koenigsegg’s Sadair’s Spear, a track-oriented hypercar built on the Jesko Attack, set the new benchmark. With a lap time six tenths faster than Czinger’s previous record, Koenigsegg now has an impressive lead over the California automaker focused on 3D printing.

Even with a lap time of 1:24.16, the McMurtry Spéirling holds the record for the fastest lap overall by more than six seconds. Despite its incredible speed, the McMurtry Spéirling is not a road-legal car and is exempt from the rules and tyre restrictions that production hypercars must contend with. The fastest laps ever recorded in competitive racing at Laguna Seca, where current IndyCars clock times in the 1:08 range, are still sixteen seconds faster than the production car record.

Interestingly, both Czinger and Koenigsegg have so far avoided chasing lap time glory at the Nürburgring. The current production car record there belongs to the Mercedes-AMG One, the only machine to break into the 6:29 range in the track’s history. While Laguna Seca demands a completely different kind of speed and handling balance, the blistering performances of both Koenigsegg and Czinger suggest they could potentially challenge the AMG One’s dominance at the ’Ring someday.
